KAT AND A DOG LLC

COMFORT THAT ONLY A DOG CAN OFFER

Encouraging positivity and healing since 2010

Through the use of registered therapy dogs, Katherine works to encourage struggling readers, decrease phobias, and aid in self-regulation practices.  Therapy Dogs offer a comfort that cannot come from a person.  According to UCLA Health, animal assisted therapy offers many mental, as well as physical benefits.

Katherine is a Primary Montessori Guide for children ages three to six.  She has a Master's Degree in Education and is currently working on a Certification in Animal-Assisted Therapy.  Katherine is also a dog lover and has worked with Therapy Dogs since 2010.  She has participated in nursing homes, retirement communities, libraries and schools to offer comfort and support to those who need it.

Students benefit from therapy dogs in a multitude of ways. Programs may include reading support, confidence building, ice-breakers, decreasing phobias, increasing self-esteem, and many, more.

Psychology and Psychiatry

In collaboration with a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, or psychotherapist, a therapy dog may be utilized in cognitive behavior therapy and can aid in ice-breakers, confidence building, desensitization and phobia reduction.

Dentophobia is decreased through a therapy dog that can decrease anxiety in a waiting room, or during a patient visit.  The dog may be use as a petting tool, or as a comforting weight on a patient's lap during routine dental exams.

Libraries

Reading programs such as D.E.A.R., PAWS for Reading, Tail Waggin' Tutors, and R.E.A.D, are already implemented in numerous libraries and schools across the country.  Kat and Indy can provide a reliable, and consistent form of these programs by scheduling daily, or weekly visits.
